Pro Superbike grid revised after unprecedented coin toss ruling

The Pro Superbike feature grid has been adjusted after Friday night’s historic MMIC ruling, with Ben Young taking the “top spot” for both Superbike races this weekend after an unprecedented Saturday morning coin toss.

The decision comes after a wild day at Atlantic Motorsport Park on Friday, where Young and Alex Dumas set the exact same time in qualifying at a 1:07.521, the first time ever that two riders produced identical times for pole position.

The series originally ruled that Dumas would start from pole after setting the time first, but an appeal and subsequent ruling from the MMIC decided that both riders would effectively share pole position, with a coin toss determining who gets first choice of their grid spot in round three.

Young won the coin toss, choosing the left side of the grid and the traditional run down into the tight turn two. Dumas was given the choice of either of the next two positions, electing to start on the right side and get the inside line for turn one. The decision will place Trevor Daley (third-fastest) on the middle of the front row.

The two will put the bizarre circumstances behind them and renew their championship battle when the first of two feature Superbike races kicks off at AMP this afternoon, scheduled for roughly 3 pm AT (2 pm ET).
