Bridgestone CSBK Confirm Official Series Thursday Test at Shannonville Opener, May 18

The 2023 Bridgestone CSBK National Championship series will open with an official series test on the Thursday prior to the Victoria Day opening round at Shannonville Motorsport Park, May 18.  This event will be open to all competitors with current CSBK Competition Membership who are entering the weekend’s National competition, May 19-21.

This event marks the official competition debut of the title sponsorship new spec tire Bridgestone agreement, covering all seven classes of the CSBK. Importations Thibault Ltd will co-ordinate the tire services provided for every competitor, Professional or Amateur, competing in the 2023 Nationals.

The 2023 CSBK opener marks the return of the series to Shannonville Motorsport Park, east of Belleville, ON., for the first-time post COVID.  The second-ever CSBK National was held at the venue, then still known as Nelson International Raceway, in September of 1980.

The CSBK tour last raced at Shannonville Motorsport Park in May of 2019, when Ben Young won the race aboard his Van Dolder’s Home Team BMW Motorrad S1000RR.  Young went on to earn his first overall National title that year.  Although Young did not get to defend his number one plate in 2020 at SMP, Young was the victor in last year’s Championship too, and will wear the coveted numero uno on his BMW next month.

That Shannonville race on the perimeter Pro track in 2019 also marked the latest debut of 14-time CSBK Superbike Champ Jordan Szoke for Canadian Kawasaki, his fourth stint with the “mean green.”  This year, Szoke will make his return to National action after a year’s lay off recovering from serious injuries suffered last may on a Motocross Bike.

The Thursday test scheduled for Shannonville on May 18 will follow the standard pattern for pre-event CSBK activity, as used recently at the two-day Bridgestone tire test at JenningsGP in North Florida.  There will be three separate sets of racers on track, with sessions for Pros, Amateur and Lightweight class racers.

Competitor Pre-entry for the opening event at S.M.P., including registration for the newly announced Thursday Test sessions, will be available online April 14 for registered CSBK Competition Members, with a closing date for entries of Sunday, May 14.
