Team News: Tomas Casas Round 4 Preview

Casas to make season debut at CTMP tripleheader finale

After nearly a full year off the Pro Superbike grid, Tomas Casas and the Parts Canada Yamaha team will be returning to the Canadian Superbike Championship for the final round of the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 12-14.

Casas was preparing for another breakthrough season in 2022 when he suffered a broken right scaphoid in an April training incident, a long-healing injury that has sidelined him for the first six races of the feature Superbike campaign.

Despite still not being at 100%, the 23-year-old has been ramping up his training efforts in hopes of a return to the final round in CTMP, a move he can now make official as he updates his plans ahead of his season debut at his home track.

“There’s still quite a bit of aching and discomfort, but I’m feeling good enough to move properly on the bike and hopefully be as competitive as possible this weekend” Tomas said.

As part of his return to the CSBK grid, Casas and the Yamaha Canada/Parts Canada/ITK9 team will also welcome the support of a new local sponsor for the weekend, Taso’s Restaurant and Pizzeria.

Taso’s has quickly become one of the most popular food destinations in the Peterborough area, and is pleased to continue to grow their brand by supporting Casas this weekend as his official tire sponsor for all three feature races.

Casas will also be sporting a brand-new Fast Company motor in his YZF-R1 machine, courtesy of renowned engine builder Scott Miller and Dyno-approved by Brooklin Cycle Racing, as the extra horsepower should come in handy down the long Andretti straight at the fast CTMP layout.

“Scott Miller has a prestigious history of building some of the best motors in Canadian racing,” Tomas added. “I am excited to test it out and have that extra boost needed to fight for the win!”

The added support of Taso’s and help from Fast Company will add momentum to what should be an exciting return for the two-time Sport Bike champion and former Rookie of the Year, who has enjoyed a strong history at the “Old Mosport” circuit.

Casas overcame plenty of adversity in 2021 to finish fifth, sixth, and sixth in the three feature Superbike races, and added a fourth-place finish there in 2019 after running at the front of the pack early on. The Colombian native and Peterborough, ON resident also won both Sport Bike races at CTMP in 2018, scoring eight podiums in ten career races there during his Sport Bike career.

Tomas also hopes his return can bring a boost to Yamaha’s chances in the Constructors Championship, as the Iwata manufacturer sits fourth in the overall standings, just 27 points back of Kawasaki and 12 points clear of Ducati.

Along with the continued support of Yamaha Canada, Parts Canada, and ITK9, and the new backing of Taso’s, Casas would also like to thank GBRacing, Motul, Pro6 Cycle and Dunlop Tires, Hindle Exhaust, Bickle Racing, Flexiglass, DP Brakes, Brooklin Cycle Racing, Vortex, Human 2.0, Forsaken Motorsports, Peterborough Cycle Salvage, Trackdayhub, Laps4MD, and everyone else who has supported him through a difficult 2022 campaign.
