Mopar CSBK at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, ON, Aug 16-17.
Qualifying was on Friday afternoon as this was a double header round. 3rd place in Bell Helmets Amateur Sport Bike meant a front row start and second row for Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike with 7th place.
Saturday morning was dry but the forecast called for rain. Sure enough when the AM Sport Bike started so did a few rain drops. Stacey was in second place but as the rain came down harder a number of riders crashed out. Stacey had a big moment at the end of the straight but managed to save it and crossed the line in the lead. Half a lap later the red flag was shown. With a wet track the competitors were given a ten minute practice session as there had been no wet sessions up until that point. “On the back straight all I could see was the spray from the other bikes” said Stacey. With a reduced field Stacey got away in 2nd place. She dropped down to 5th place but worked her way back up to cross the finish line 3rd close to the leaders. A good result considering never having ridden a 600 in the wet. The AM SBK race was postponed until Sunday.
Sunday was dry, sunny and warm. In the first AM SBK race Stacey finished 9th. In AM Sport Bike Stacey was 2nd but it was not quite enough to win the championship. In the final AM SBK race finished in 8th position. The results were enough to finish 2nd overall in AM Sport Bike and 3rd in AM SBK year-end standings. Congratulations to Tomas and Pedro.
“Overall it has been a successful season” said Stacey. “The championship went down to the wire, with a few wins and podiums along the way. This was my first full year on the OCM Racing/FTR/Honda Canada CBR600RR so we were not sure how it would go. I would especially like to thank OCM Racing (Amir, Mike and team), Honda Canada and Pat Milligan for all his hard work this year”.
