Flat Tracker Lawrence returns to roadracing at CTMP

Lawrence Returns with Riedmann Kawasaki for Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike at C.T.M.P.

Reigning Flat Track Canada National Champion Doug Lawrence of Mississauga, ON, will celebrate the anniversary of his successful career road race debut at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s Mopar CSBK round this weekend.  Lawrence will ride a Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja in the Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike National races, looking to build on a brief but successful start in pavement racing.

One year ago, Lawrence was a last minute addition to the debut events for the new Kawasaki Ninja 300 spec race series, and took the overall title after two very close races for the 36 horsepower class. Earlier this season, 30-year-old Lawrence made his first regular class start on the Mopar CSBK Tour at Autodrome St-Eustache, near Montreal, QC.  On June 26, Lawrence pushed through the pack to take the lead on the last lap and win with a borrowed Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja in the Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike category.

For the final National races of 2016 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Lawrence has made a deal to ride for Riedmann Management, who field popular Pro front runner Kenny Riedmann in the Pro Superbike Feature division.

“I’ll be riding one of the Kawasaki 1000s that Kenny did so well with last year,” explained Lawrence, who practiced on a borrowed machine at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during a Rider’s Choice Track Day August 11.  “The new owner of the bike, Tim Toldness, is generous enough to let us use his motorcycle, and we know that Kawasaki has been fast at this track in the past.”

“The last couple of rounds of Flat Track Canada have been a challenge,” continued Lawrence. “Fresh” earned a fourth at the George Pepper Memorial Event at the Belleville Fairgrounds last Sunday aboard his back-up Harley-Davidson XR750, in a rain date event.

“I have a lot on the go, but the weekend at CTMP is certainly a priority.  I’ve enjoyed my roadracing so far, I’m happy with my progress, and I’m excited to see what the future holds in terms of my development.  I’ll be back on the Flat Tracker at London the week after CTMP.”

“The roadrace format is so different,” confirms Lawrence.  “I’m happy with the experience I gained in Quebec, and I understand how things work better, certainly Qualifying. I’ll be looking to put everything together for my two Nationals on pavement at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.”

Lawrence’s CTMP race program aboard the 180 plus horsepower Ninja is backed by Sturgess Cycle, Scott Cameron Motorsports, Riedmann Management, Tim Toldness, Parts Canada, Liqui Moly and Ross Millson.

Support for Lawrence’s family-run Flat Track Canada and AMA Pro activity comes from Parts Canada, Alpinestars, HJC, Rider’s Choice, Town Moto, Motion Pro, Vortex Racing, Brooklin Cycle Racing, American Harley-Davidson, John Briggs Motorsport, Texas Tornado Boot Camp and Jon Castin Racing.
