Round 2 Report: Sebastien Tremblay

Round 2 of the Mopar CSBK Canadian Superbike Championship was held at St-Eustache, Quebec, 10 minute away from Sebastien residence. Friday practice went well for him and he was ready for the busy Saturday afternoon qualifying and first round of the weekend. During the second part of qualifying, the Shaker was sitting in 3rd until a red flag occurred 4 minute before the end of the session. After the restart, the Kawasaki rider decided not to go out to save some lap on the front tire that he would reuse for the race a couple hour later, and as he already bested his fastest lap around the 1.93km track by .4 second, only to be relayed to 5th place which is good enough for second row, sitting beside fellow friend and competitor Michael Leon.

At the start of Saturday’s race, Sebastien was running 6th trying to figure out a way to pass Leon until a red flag came out.  On the restart, he released his clutch lever a little too fast resulting in several riders passing him before the first corner. After reaching back to 5th place runner after 6 laps, he was able to pass on lap 10. Seeing he was reeling in 4th place, he continued to push trying to see what 4 lap could bring. Unfortunately, 2 lap before the end, he had to use the escape road at the end of the back straightaway. He had to let 2 riders go in order to re-enter the track safely.

“The bike is so much easier to ride since Patrice Goyette put his touch to it, it’s a shame we couldn’t show its real potential today, we’ll try to show it tomorrow. We’ll be doing some big changes to the 2016 ZX10R for tomorrow morning practice to try finding some speed. ”

Sunday’s practice went really well, the changes the team made to the bike made it easier to ride and was more consistent. At the start of Sunday’s final, Sebastien made a great start and was already fifth behind Szoke. A small mistake in the second corner cost him a couple bike length and lost touch with the lead group. From that moment, fellow competitor Michael Leon was glued to the Kawasaki rider. After several lap not able to pull away from him, by pushing hard every lap, they were able to reel back in fourth place runner Kevin Lacombe and eventually passing him on the straightaway on his underpowered machinery. The battle for fourth place was still raging on for the 8 following lap with Michael showing his front wheel a couple times. The Ixon rider was able to pull a second of advantage when passing some lap traffic 3 laps from the end.  The gap stayed the same until the checkered flag.

“Our weekend here is really satisfying. We went a lot faster than we ever had here at St-Eustache so it’s really good for the upcoming race.”

With the big participation of Laval Moto and Kawasaki, Sebastien will be following the national at Shubenacadie on July 16 and 17.

“We are really pleased with the amount of support everyone is giving us this year, it really helped a lot and it really show in our total race time. We went 12 second faster at Shannonville and now 23 second faster here in St-Eustache. Hopefully I can put down some descent lap time at Shubenacadie as well.”
