Team News: Eastbound and Down for surging Trevor Daley’s Team Suzuki

Any racer worth their salt will tell you the only way to go is up. After a pair of third-place finishes the past two rounds, Trevor Daley is looking for a little better than that aboard the Fast Company Suzuki GSX-R1000 backed by Parts Canada at the July 19-21 Mopar Canadian Superbike round at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia.

Returning for this round from his duties in MotoAmerica is moonlighting Floridian tuner Dave Weaver. If you cast your memory back to the Grand Bend round, it was man-of-few-words Weaver who took the promise of the Scott Miller-built machines and helped Trevor find a setup to inch him further up the grid toward the front. But Trevor isn’t relying solely on Dave to help him find his pace this weekend.

“It’s an extremely physical track to ride,” says Trevor of the rolling and rough surface of Shubie. “I’ve put in extra work with my trainer between rounds to build strength. To be there at the end of the race you need endurance. In the past at Shubie I’ve never been lighting quick in qualifying, but during the race I’ve found my pace. But to be in the hunt at the front means being quick from the get-go.”

It’s a long haul from Ontario to Nova Scotia, but it’s a blessing in disguise for many racers coming from central Canada. Think of the drive out and back as a forced vacation. “I’m leaving a little early this year,” says Trevor of the trip east. “Between racing, training, and running my shop it’s been non- stop, and a change is as good as a rest. I’m on the cusp of being at the front. We’ve got to keep pushing to take that final step.”
