The 4th round of the 2019 MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship at Shubenacadie Motorsport Park, out East in beautiful Nova Scotia took place on the weekend of July 19-21.
‘’I’d like to start by apologizing to all my sponsors and fans for not having produced a race report for the St-Eustache round. Life sometimes gets in the way and I haven’t been able to sit down and write a well-deserved report for them. My apologies!’’
On board his RRRacing built / Turcotte Performace / D.B. Moto ZX6R, Coelho decided to enter this event with lots of motivation… by hiring Jon Cornwell for the Thursday practice.
‘’I have been struggling since last year with the bike and wanted to put all my chances on my side for the technical and physically hard track, that is Shubie. So I asked Jon if he was available to work with me.’’
Thursday saw Alex rolling up to pace and getting faster. ‘’ Things seem to be going great. Still need to fine tune a bit more but I feel so much better on the bike.’’
As Shubenacadie is a double header for the Pros, that means that Friday is qualifying and Coelho managed 8th in Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike. ‘’I had issues with the bike… bouncing like a wild bronco out there. It took a toll out of me!’’ ‘’ Made some changes yesterday evening but that seem to not work out, so we’ll go back to what we had during practice for the race tomorrow.’’
Alex boggled a bit the start by running the front wheel off the ground but regrouped to hold his 8th place for the beginning of what would be an extremely difficult race, with temperatures hitting the 40s with the humidex. ‘’ My god that was a hard race. Race was feeling good until I ran into shifting issues and lost a few places to regain some back.’’ Alex finished 9th and would discover, at end of race, that the transmission wouldn’t shift anymore. ‘’We took the trannie out to discover that 2 gears were loose and a fork was damaged.
That issue saw Alex on the side line for race 2 on Sunday.
‘’I’m quite bummed about the transmission. Till Saturday things were rolling quite well and I was so pumped for a little redemption on Sunday but that wouldn’t happen.’’ Says Alex with a gloom look on his face. ‘’Guess we’ll have to concentrate on the next and final round.’’
‘’I would like to thank everyone that makes all this possible: D.B. Moto, Rob Roston from RRRacing and the help of Gord Bush Performance, Turcotte Performance, TP Distribution and GULF oil, Hindle Exhausts, SHOEI Helmets, Sportbike Track Gear, Drippin’ Wet, Vortex and Muay Thaï Rive-Sud… and of course Amber.’’
Also a honourable mention to the CSBK staff, Pro 6 Cycle, Bickle Racing, the fans that always come out to encourage us and the ALL THE MARSHALLS AND MEDICAL STAFF for their amazing work !!!
The series travels to the next and final round at the legendary Canadian Motorsport Park, Ont. August 9-11 of the 2019 MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship.
