Although it feels like we’ve just begun, the 2019 Mopar Canadian Superbike Series has but one round remaining. But what a round it will be. Mosport, or Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, as it’s currently branded, is the CSBK’s sole stop at a racetrack where a superbike can properly stretch its legs. Because of CTMP’s aura (and eyeball-flattening speeds) all the quick lads and front running contenders come out of the woodwork, adding interest to what has already been a season full of great racing and unexpected surprises.
It’s been a breakthrough season for Trevor Daley on his Suzuki Canada GSX-R1000 backed by Parts Canada. Despite a trio of podium finishes, a little raw luck at the opening round has Trevor fifth in the standings after five of seven races. But Trevor isn’t fretting, CTMP is “his kind of track.”
“I need to be, and will be, on my game,” says Trevor. “Now that I’ve had the taste for running up front and a grip on the pure pace it takes, it’s a habit I want to continue.” Because of its speed, CTMP is a track that requires a strong horse. “My GSX-R1000 will be an animal on the straights, says wheelie-king Trevor, “the GSX-R’s variable cam timing will be an ace in hand up the long back straight with the long gearing we run at Mosport.”
Full Spectrum Racing’s Dave Weaver will not be in attendance trackside but will be onboard as part of the “skunkworks” program, reviewing data and mapping while working with MotoAmerica Sportbike points leader Bobby Fong in Sonoma, California. “In the two CSBK events Dave and I have worked together this year, we’ve made real progress on the Suzukis” says Trevor. “We used the Pro Cycle track day at AMP to develop mapping to unleash the true potential of the Fast Company prepared motor at the final round.”
Always a fan favourite, CTMP promises to be a barn-burner of a weekend, with races both Saturday and Sunday. Full details can be found at the series’ website (csbk.ca) or at the track’s website,
