After a year-long hiatus from racing in 2020, Tomas Casas is eager to pick up where he left off in 2019. That year, Casas finished 4th in the CSBK Pro Superbike Championship despite being a rookie in road racing’s premier class. This season, the two-time Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike Champion’s aims are to finish consistently on the podium and fight for the coveted Canada Cup.
Casas, a native of Colombia, also looks forward to continuing his long-standing relationship with title sponsors Yamaha Motor Canada and Parts Canada, while kick-starting new sponsorships for 2021.
“Both Yamaha Motor Canada and Parts Canada have played a significant role throughout my racing career,” says the 22-year-old Casas. “To have their continued support means a lot to me, and I am thankful for these ongoing relationships.”
Rounding out the list of title sponsors for the 2021 season is ITK9 dog training and rehabilitation, located just outside the GTA. ITK9 owner Jason Wright is a good friend of Casas and a motorcycle enthusiast himself.
“I’m happy to offer support to a young, talented rider such as Tomas,” says Wright. “I know he will be a strong contender for the championship with the right resources."
“Jason and I have become good friends over the last couple years, and his support means a lot,” adds Casas. “There is no doubt that when I get a dog, it will be spending some quality time at ITK9.”
Casas is also pleased to commence the official partnership with Motul that was set to start in 2020. Casas’s father, Julio, has trusted Motul’s brand to go in his son's machines since his early motocross days and throughout his entire career. During his own racing days in Colombia, Julio and his late friend, Santiago Villa, were the country’s Motul distributors.
“I’m excited to begin this official partnership with Motul,” Casas expresses. “My dad has always trusted Motul products, and we’ve used nothing but the best oil my entire career.”
Casas, who resides in Peterborough, ON, is grateful for the additional support of sponsors including GBRacing, the only FIM-approved company of its kind. Since 2009, GBRacing has designed superior engine case covers for street and track use, and is used by many of the best teams in the world.
Casas will also be taking part in the new Pro 6 GP series that is set to begin alongside the CSBK national at Calabogie Motorsports Park on June 4-5, depending on provincial restrictions.
When asked about this coming summer, Casas expressed excitement for getting back on his YZF-R1 after some time off due to COVID-19. “I hope we get to go racing soon and that we have a fun, safe season... and when the time is right, to see some fans trackside!”
Tomas Casas Racing would like to thank all ongoing sponsors and new sponsors including Yamaha Motor Canada, Parts Canada, ITK9, Motul, GBRacing, Pro 6 Cycle & Dunlop Tires, Hindle Exhaust Systems, Bickle Racing, Flexiglass, DP Brakes, Brooklin Cycle Racing, Vortex, Human 2.0, Acme Motorsports, Peterborough Cycle Salvage, Trackdayhub.com, Laps4MD and all other personnel and fans for their love and support.
