Simpson joins Team PMR for Sport Bike wildcard at CTMP

Last year’s Pro Sport Bike championship runner-up will be returning to the grid in round five, as Matt Simpson will make a wildcard appearance for the Paul Macdonell Racing Team at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Simpson, who scored his first career pro CSBK win at CTMP in 2022, has been serving as the crew chief for the PMR team this season, which features both Macdonell and AIM Insurance Amateur Superbike championship leader Goran Radisic.

In return, Macdonell will now help boost Simpson’s effort as he helps the 22-year-old prepare a Yamaha YZF-R6 with a matching PMR livery, as Simpson returns to national racing for the first time since the Shannonville finale in 2023.

The 2021 Amateur Sport Bike runner-up has been a consistent frontrunner since turning pro, scoring eight podiums and 13 top-five finishes in 15 career races.

Matt joined the PMR squad off-track ahead of the 2024 campaign and has helped Macdonell to a career-best seventh in the feature GP Bikes Pro Superbike championship, including a personal best finish of sixth at his home track in round three, while Radisic leads the Amateur Superbike standings with four victories and a podium in each race after scoring his first career CSBK win in round one.

Simpson recently tested Macdonell’s BMW S1000RR at the Rocky Mountain Motorsports test following round three in Alberta, where he ended the day fifth-fastest.

The Bowmanville, Ontario native last raced at the historic Daytona 200 in March, finishing 25th out of 62 riders aboard a privateer Evans Racing Yamaha.

Simpson will try to add a second Economy Lube Pro Sport Bike career victory at his home track when the fifth round gets underway at CTMP, August 9-11, just 20 minutes north of his hometown.

Matt would like to thank Paul Macdonell and the PMR team for this opportunity, as well as Blackstock Motorsports, ATR, and Bickle Racing for their continued support.
