The Sportsman motorcycle roadracing categories will join the Schedule of events for National rounds over two weekends on the 2014 Mopar CSBK National tour this season. RACE, the Shannonville Motorsport Park based sanctioning body, has agreed with CSBK to have Sportsman races at both the Shannonville opener and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park final event for the 2014 Canadian National Roadracing Championship tour.
At Shannonville Motorsport Park on June 6-8, RACE will host the opening Mopar CSBK National of 2014. RACE will sanction two Regional support class events for the three available Sportsman classes the same weekend, as part of the RACE Regional Championships.
At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 15-17, a single Sportsman class points-scoring race, for a pair of RACE combined Sportsman classes, will take place as part of the big National wrap-up weekend at the former Mosport Park venue.
“This is a good opportunity to add something slightly different from the classes offered at most of the CSBK National Rounds,” explained RACE boss Chris Chapelle. “We have provided support event at the Shannonville Nationals in years past, so we are expanding our participation, and I think this will enhance the on track show for the fans at these events.”
The RACE Sportsman’s Class series offers action in three different divisions, with races often combined through waved starts.
Heavyweight Sportsman includes machines such as BMW R model flat twins cylinder powered machines, early air and liquid-cooled Ducati twins, air-cooled, push-rod equipped Harley--Davidsons, older four-cylinder 600cc class race bikes (ten years or older) and 250cc Grand Prix class motorcycles.
The Middleweight Sportsman class rules structure permits machines such as Suzuki’s popular v-twin SV650, Yamaha’s FZR400 four-cylinder from the late 1980s, Kawasaki’s long-serving EX500 series and 125cc Grand Prix machines including Honda’s long-serving RS125.
In the Lightweight Sportsman division, Honda’s popular spec racer CBR125R and 250R machines are legal for action, as well as the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and 300 twins and a range of larger displacement, older era equipment.
