Newly crowned Bell Helmets Amateur Sport Bike Canadian National Champion Tomas Casas of Peterborough, ON, will not be able to attend the Red Bull Rookies 2015 Grand Prix selection event at the Guadix Circuit in Granada, Spain. October 14-16, as previously planned.  The teenager was injured at Shannonville Motorsport Park last weekend, when he crashed while running in fourth position in his first career Pro race start in Dunlop 600 Sport Bike, during RACE Superseries action on Sunday, September 28.

Casas fell from his OCM Racing/Peterborough Cycle Salvage Yamaha YZF-R6 exiting the turn ten hairpin, and the race was stopped so that he could be attended to.  It turned out that Casas suffered a broken and dislocated left wrist and a badly bruised right knee.

In an email update, Julio, father of Tomas, explained that his son had been to see a bone specialist on Wednesday, October 1.  The radius bone in the Tomas’ left wrist is broken, but the displacement had been fixed properly on the day of the incident at the local Shannonville venue area hospital in Napanee. ON.

“Today, they put him in a cast, and they will take another x-ray in three weeks,” explained the elder Casas.  “The fracture is right where the bone is growing, so it would be really risky if Tomas was to fall and hit the same area in the next four to six weeks.  So unfortunately we will not go to Red Bull.”

“So the year is finished for him,” continued Casas Senior.  “Our goal is now to have a good recovery, and focus on finding the sponsors and support we require for next season.  We very much appreciate all the efforts of our team, OCM Racing, and of course all the fans.”
